Scripture: Ezekiel 37:1–10
"Then He said to me, 'Prophesy to these bones and say to them, "Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!" ... So I prophesied as He commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.'" (Ezekiel 37:4, 10 NIV)
There are seasons in life when our spirit feels like those dry bones scattered across the valley—lifeless, broken, and without hope. Depression, loss, or prolonged trials can drain us until all that remains is emptiness. Like Israel in exile, we may feel cut off from God, asking if restoration is even possible.
But notice what God told Ezekiel: “Prophesy to these bones.” The Word of God has the power to restore what looks dead. Ezekiel obeyed, and step by step the bones rattled, connected, and were covered with flesh. Yet even then, they lay motionless—until God sent His Spirit to breathe life into them.
This vision reminds us that healing and renewal are not found in our own strength, but in the Spirit of God working through His Word. He can take what seems beyond repair and breathe new life into it.
Are there “dry bones” in your life? Dreams that seem dead? A heart that feels numb? A faith that has grown weary? Invite the Lord to speak His Word over you and ask His Spirit to breathe fresh life into your soul. He is still in the business of turning valleys of death into armies of hope.
Prayer:
Lord, You are the God who brings life out of death. Speak to the dry places in my heart and breathe Your Spirit into me again. Restore my hope, revive my faith, and raise me up to stand strong in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection Question:
What area of your life feels like a valley of dry bones, and how can you invite God’s Word and Spirit to breathe life into it today?
